OUR STORY

Bright Star Campground is a reclaimed children’s church camp (Camp Christa). Each summer churches from all over the southwest would bring kids for week-long camps. It used to house up to 100 kids at a time! Later in 2018 it was purchased and reopened as a cannabis-friendly campground and then sold in 2021 to 'Bright Star' with a new vision of expanded camping/glamping options and a family-friendly vacation environment.   We re-opened and expanded accommodations as a family-friendly campground on what many consider sacred land in the shadow of Mesa Verde.  We strive to be low-impact and respect this special location.

We are no longer the 21 & up Camp Kush, however, Cannabis is legal in Colorado and is allowed at Bright Star Campground in the privacy of your campsite, away from other guests.

Our 40-acre property is located in the Great Sage Plain at the edge of the Colorado Plateau in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic mountain/mesa views of the Four Corners region, all only 5 miles southeast of Main Street in Cortez.

We provide a unique setup that often fosters a sense of community with other travelers in the common kitchen and pavilion areas.  You can be as private or as social as you want while enjoying a relaxed casual camping & glamping environment.

"My friend and I camped there for 2 days at the end of may. After tent camping for 4 days in Arizona and it was nice not having to set up the tent as we stayed in a cabin. It was amazing to have a hot shower. Jen was so nice, I loved it there. Beautiful camp and would come again. Thank you again for your hospitality."
